The prosecutor tapped just five months ago to lead the Justice Department’s investigation into alleged anti-Trump conspiracies by Obama-era intelligence and law enforcement officials has resigned, and his parting words suggest he was pushed to file charges he believed the evidence did not yet support.
Joseph diGenova, 81, tendered his resignation at 3 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, September 10, stepping down as Counselor to the Attorney General and walking away from the sprawling “Grand Conspiracy” probe he had been hired to run. His wife, attorney Victoria Toensing, who served on the same federal prosecution team in South Florida, departed the Justice Department the following day.
