JD Vance confirms Justice Department is probing claims Omar committed immigration fraud

Vice President JD Vance told reporters Tuesday that the Justice Department is investigating allegations that Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar committed immigration fraud to allegedly help a relative remain in the country.Omar has faced questions about immigration fraud and her family finances in recent years after her husband’s companies went from being worth $51,000 in 2023 to up to $30 million in 2024. Omar has since claimed the drastic change was an accounting error.
The congresswoman has been accused of immigration fraud for allegedly marrying her “brother” in order to help him remain legally in the United States. She has denied the allegations.
“I don’t want to prejudge an investigation,” Vance said. “It certainly seems like something fishy is there. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime, and that’s something the Department of Justice is looking at right now.” 
Vance is currently leading the Trump administration’s efforts to combat fraud as the president’s “fraud czar,” and has increasingly been in the spotlight for leading a crackdown on misuses of public funds across the nation.
