Israel warns White House of ‘security concerns’ over Gaza deal

The Israeli government this week warned the White House that it had major concerns with the recently unveiled Hamas disarmament deal, contending that its implementation risked Hamas reasserting control over the region.Trump’s Board of Peace, last week, unveiled a 15-point plan for the transition of power in Gaza, which included the establishment of an interim government, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the establishment of a new security force in the region.
But Israel has “serious security concerns” with the plan and has voiced them to the White House, Politico reported, citing comments from a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Our assessment is that if we redeploy before Hamas is truly disarmed, it will quickly expand its presence throughout Gaza, rebuild its terrorist infrastructure, once again threaten Israeli communities, and seek to carry out another Oct. 7-style attack,” spokesman Doron Spielman told the Associated Press.
The 15-point plan called for the storage of heavy weapons, but left the interim Gaza government with the authority to decide on personal weapons, such as rifles.
Conflict has raged in Gaza since October of 2023, when Hamas forces launched a large-scale raid on Israeli territory, briefly capturing border towns and taking hundreds of hostages.
