In 1955, Richard Daley was elected Mayor of Chicago, the beginning of one-party rule in Illinois that continues to this day. After the election, when asked about reform, the Alderman of the 43rd ward, Paddy Bauler, said: “Chicago ain’t ready for reform.” Well, that was seven decades ago, and city as well as state-wide voters are still waiting.
