The National Council of Resistance of Iran rallied in New York City for a second day ahead of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s address to the United Nations.The NCRI is an international coalition of Iranian resistance groups that purports to act as a potential provisional government in the event of the Islamic regime’s overthrow.
Pezeshkian’s speech came one day after President Donald Trump addressed the same body and urged the world to unite behind his efforts to pressure Iran to the negotiating table. During his address, the American delegation walked out of the hall.
NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi addressed the rally on Wednesday, demanding a democratic government in Iran and explicitly denouncing the faction of Iranian opposition that has rallied behind Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi.
“The remnants of the Shah’s dictatorship and their plans to revive SAVAK [secret police], along with torture, repression, and military rule, will never prevail,” she said.
She further insisted that the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had destabilized the regime.
