A group of Republican lawmakers in Indiana face Trump-backed challengers in the state’s primaries Tuesday after they blocked an effort from the president to redistrict the state.Eight GOP state senators seeking reelection voted against the Trump-backed redistricting push. President Donald Trump has since endorsed primary challengers to seven of them, the Associated Press reported.
Trump, in February, issued six of the endorsements, backing Blake Fiechter, Tracey Powell, Paula Copenhaver, Brenda Wilson, Michelle Davis, and Jeff Ellington.
Other Republican-aligned groups, including Turning Point USA, have thrown their support behind the effort to unseat the incumbent Republicans who opposed redistricting.
The Indiana Senate voted down the proposed slate of congressional maps in December of last year, despite pressure from state leaders and national Republican figures.
