ICE officer arrested over Minnesota shooting involving Venezuelan migrant

Texas law enforcement on Friday arrested an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer facing charges in Minnesota over a non-fatal shooting from earlier this year.Christian Castro was placed on leave in February over the incident. He allegedly fired into the home of Alfredo Aljorna after a lengthy car chase saw Aljorna enter the premises. The gunshots allegedly resulted in the accidental wounding of Julio Sosa-Celis, Aljorna’s roommate.
Castro faces four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime, The Hill reported. Castro initially claimed that he had fired in self defense and that the pair had beaten him with a shovel.
Authorities initially arrested Sosa-Celis and Aljorna, but dropped all charges against them in the face of video evidence contradicting Castro’s claims.
The incident was one of several infamous shooting episodes in Minneapolis amid the crackdown on illegal immigration in that city. Anti-ICE demonstrators Renee Good and Alex Pretti were both killed during altercations with ICE agents, though none have been charged in connecton with those incidents.
