A Peruvian citizen living legally in Kansas was arrested by ICE after she admitted to falsely claiming U.S. citizenship on a voter registration form and casting a ballot in the 2024 general election, part of a broader federal crackdown on noncitizen voting.
Homeland Security Investigations agents took Mariana Alexandra Dewey into custody at her Wichita residence on September 1 after election records tied her to a provisional ballot cast in Sedgwick County during the November 5, 2024, general election. Dewey, a lawful permanent resident from Peru, had already pleaded guilty to disorderly election conduct under Kansas law before federal agents showed up at her door.
