House passes bill sanctioning countries that purchase Russian energy, headed to President’s desk

The House passed legislation Wednesday giving President Donald Trump authority to sanction countries with tariffs that purchase Russian energy. It also imposes tough new sanctions against the Kremlin over its four-and-a-half year war on Ukraine. The bill is headed to Trump’s desk for his signature after more than a year and a half of negotiating. The bill was championed by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who had worked across the aisle to get this passed, according to The Hill. 
The House passed it by a vote of 262-159, with 203 Republicans and 58 Democrats voting for it, with seven Republicans and 152 Democrats opposing it. It also extends new sanctions on Iran.
