The House Ethics Committee shared an update Monday on its investigation into Florida GOP Rep. Cory Mills, who is being investigated for several charges, including threatening to release a former girlfriend’s nude videos. The committee began the probe last year, which is investigating allegations that Mills misrepresented his military service, engaged in sexual misconduct, committed campaign finance violations, and he is also accused of illicit involvement in federal contracts as a member of Congress, among others.
The Investigative Subcommittee that is handling the investigation said it has authorized more than 20 subpoenas, collected thousands of documents, and contacted dozens of witnesses for the probe.
“The ISC expects to receive additional relevant documents and testimony in the coming weeks and will take all necessary steps to conduct a full and thorough investigation,” the subcommittee said.
The subcommittee’s probe also focuses on an incident last year when the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report that Mills had assaulted a woman with whom he was in a relationship. No charges were ever brought, and the woman has denied that the Republican physically harmed her.
The probe also centered on a restraining order that a Florida judge issued against Mills after a former girlfriend accused him of threatening to release her explicit videos.
“The Committee takes these and the other allegations very seriously and will continue to review them in a manner that ensures due process and prioritizes witness confidentiality and safety,” the subcommittee said. “The Committee will publicly release its findings in accordance with the procedural rules of the Committee and the House.”
    Mills has denied all allegations.
