House Ethics Committee opens probe into Max Miller domestic violence allegations

The House Ethics Committee announced Tuesday that it has launched an investigation into allegations that Ohio GOP Rep. Max Miller engaged in domestic violence and abuse.The probe comes just hours after Miller asked the committee to open the investigation, following domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. Miller has vowed to cooperate with the investigation.
“The Committee, pursuant to Committee Rule 18(a), is reviewing allegations that Representative Max Miller may have engaged in domestic violence and abuse or illegal drug use in violation of the Code of Official Conduct or any other applicable standard of conduct,” the committee’s leadership said in a statement. 
“The Committee notes that the mere fact that it is investigating these allegations, and publicly disclosing its review, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred,” it added. “No other public comment will be made on this matter except in accordance with Committee rules.”
Miller was married to Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, who has said he should not serve in Congress. The younger Moreno has sought a restraining order against Miller, who has denied wrongdoing. 
Moreno has alleged that Miller physically abused her, including by placing a gun to her head and pouring hot water on her.
