A Hydra is defined as any persistent evil with many sources and causes. The Greeks personified that idea in the form of a mythical monster: a serpent with nine heads, which, when any one of the heads was chopped off, would regrow two in its place. Human history has been full of hydras. We call them tyrants. They are ever-present and often perform as though they were one body with many heads: the maneuverings of the Soviet Union through its many satellites during the Cold War formed such a body of many heads.
Sadly, socialism in the world did not die with the Soviet Union. It remains the foremost ideology of modern-day tyranny. A socialist triangle remained in the Western Hemisphere, connecting the states of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, whose governments did what tyrannies do: they raked in the entire wealth of their nations to oppress, imprison, rape, and murder their own people, while spreading rot and chaos to their neighbors with invasions of criminal gangs, human sex slaves, and drugs. In the United States alone, hundreds of thousands of young people have died because of drugs shipped through gangs from Venezuela and Nicaragua.
