The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has asked the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to investigate a candidate running against Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, under the same name. The incumbent Sullivan is seeking reelection against former Rep. Mary Peltola, D-Alaska, who previously managed to win a statewide race in Republican-leaning Alaska.
But the upstart Sullivan has launched his own bid. The NRSC alleges that political consultant Amber Lee, who manages many Democrats, helped Sullivan start his campaign for free, The Hill reported. State authorities are separately investigating possible collusion between the second Sullivan and the Peltola campaign.
Dan Sullivan’s race is expected to be competitive, even so more given Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system. Sabato’s Crystal Ball on Thursday moved the race from “Leans Republican” to “toss-up” status.
