    Republicans are celebrating after a pair of local victories in New Mexico and Florida, holding onto several seats and increasing margins as Democrats fight tooth-and-nail to win back ground during President Donald Trump’s second term in the White House, according to results from several preliminary races. The biggest headline came out of New Mexico.

    According to the information, Paul Wymer is now on track to win the Rio Rancho mayoral race in a runoff. Wymer, a self-described Republican, is currently leading his challenger, Alexandria Piland, 63% to 37% respectively. That’s a significant jump from the split during the 2024 presidential race when Trump took the city by a slim margin, 51% to former Vice President Kamala Harris’ 49%.
