Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman made a surprise appearance in a video Wednesday at the Republican midterm convention, stating that although he is a Democrat, he is “always going to stand with America.”The appearance comes during the first ever Republican midterm convention, which is taking place in Texas. The two-day event features speeches from multiple GOP leaders and President Donald Trump is expected to speak both nights.
“Yes, I’m a Democrat. Why am I here talking to you today?” Fetterman said in the video. “Because, well, I’m a common sense Democrat. I’m always going to stand with America. I’m always going to reject the extremes and socialism and that anti-American way of life.”
The video appearance, which was met with applause from the audience, introduced Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Dave McCormick, whom he claimed is the “kind of senator that gets the job done.”
“We’ll work with President Trump to fight and defend the steel way of life right here in the Steel Valley,” Fetterman said before introducing McCormick to the stage, calling him “my great friend.”
Fetterman has emerged as one of the more bipartisan members of Congress, frequently voting for pro-Israel policies, and he recently urged his party to help approve a new ballroom for the White House.
