Federal marshals recovered 79 missing and endangered children during a sweeping operation described as the largest of its kind in Ohio history. Operation Meridian brought children between the ages of 6 and 17 to safety after cases involving suspected sex trafficking, abuse, neglect, runaways, and other dangerous circumstances. The month-long effort stretched across Ohio and followed leads as far away as Georgia.
The U.S. Marshals Service conducted the operation throughout August with help from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Investigators coordinated across jurisdictional lines while working cases connected to Akron, Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, and other communities. Agents from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Inspector General also participated in the statewide effort.
