Federal investigators begin trying to determine cause of Miami Amazon cargo jet crash

Federal investigators are looking into what caused an Amazon cargo jet to run past the end of a runway at Miami International Airport after landing on Sunday. The aircraft crashed into vehicles and killed at least five people, and investigators are likely to focus on whether the plane touched down too late and if the pilots correctly calculated how much runway the aircraft would need to stop safely, the Associated Press reported. 
Video of the landing appears to show the Boeing 767 touching down far down the landing end of the runway. Investigators will look at where the plane landed, if it was beyond the distance required to stop, and why the pilots didn’t execute a go-around if they determined there was a problem. 
The investigation will also look at the aircraft’s speed and braking, weather and wind conditions, the aircraft’s mechanical condition, as well as any other factors that could have contributed to the crash. 
The National Transportation Safety Board sent a team, led by Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy, to Miami. She is expected to give a briefing on the investigation on Monday.
