Federal government awards housing contract for ongoing National Guard D.C. deployment

The federal government awarded a $292 million contract to a tech-based property management platform to provide up to 2,000 apartment-style housing units for National Guard troops deployed in the nation’s capital. The award suggests that the National Guard is preparing for a long-term deployment. 
The contract awarded to Placemakr supports President Donald Trump’s executive order 14252, “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful,” which declared a crime emergency in Washington, D.C. and deployed thousands of troops to the city, the National Guard reported. 
Those troops have been staying in hotels scattered over the area, and the contract will ensure stable, secure housing, while lowering costs, according to Monica Williams, executive director of acquisitions and head of contracting activity for the National Guard Bureau. 
While addressing troops stationed in D.C. in July, Gen. Steve Nordhaus, chief of the National Guard Bureau, said that the deployment has saved 235 lives, provided 530 medical assistance to personnel, and restored children back to their families 27 times.
