A fast-burning wildfire set multiple homes ablaze Friday in Southern California’s San Juan Capistrano, located in Orange County, prompting power outages and evacuations.Authorities state that at least six homes have been set on fire so far and TV footage has shown firefighters spraying two-story suburban homes with flames leaping out of their roofs, according to the Associated Press.
The homes are victim to the Norte fire, which started in the coastal city of San Clemente before wind drove it down into San Juan Capistrano. The fire has been made worse by dry, warm wind gusts known as the Santa Ana winds.
The growing fire has already burned through at least 465 acres and is 0% contained at the time of publishing, according to California Fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Nine schools were also closed Friday in San Juan Capistrano, the Capistrano Unified School District said, and thousands are being asked to evacuate San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.
Firefighters are also currently battling two other fires in Southern California, which both began Thursday. The other fires prompted evacuation orders in the city of Azusa, north of LA, and Camp Pendleton, near San Diego.
