    Dark chocolate with 70% or higher cocoa content has been linked to benefits for gut health, mood, brain function, exercise recovery, heart health, blood sugar management and skin, according to a March 2026 report from NaturalNews.com.

    The report said dark chocolate is rich in flavanols, which it described as potent antioxidants linked to heart health, cognitive function, and metabolic benefits [1]. The cocoa bean has been shown to contain high levels of antioxidants in the form of polyphenols and flavonoids, according to the book “Good Mood Food” by Natalie Savona and Charlotte Watts. The authors wrote that the higher the cacao or cocoa percentage, the higher the protective antioxidant content [2].
