I was driving into work this morning, listening to Focus on the Family, when FOTF Vice President Tim Goeglein quoted the late, great pro-life Representative Jack Kemp. Goeglein said that Kemp (a former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills) was fond of saying “The only way to oppose a bad idea is to replace it with a good idea.”
Goeglein, who served as Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison for President George W. Bush, was encouraging parents, especially on this our nation’s 250th birthday, “to cultivate within their children an appreciation for our nation’s great heritage and a desire to participate actively in civic affairs.” His point was that in many ways, we have lost our way, forgetting—or ignoring—what in years past made us so proud to be Americans.
