LOS ANGELES (CN) — The first-of-its-kind trial over the effects that social media has on children kicked off with opening statements on Monday by the plaintiff and two defendants, Meta and Google.
“This case is about two of the richest corporations in history, who have engineered addiction in children’s brains,” said attorney Mark Lanier, representing the plaintiff, known in court as Kaley G.M. to preserve her anonymity. “I’m going to show you evidence that these companies built machines designed to addict the brains of children. And they did it on purpose.”
