One year after its initial screening, the film Reagan came back to Japan’s parliament this week for a special encore presentation attended by lawmakers and invited guests.The screening came shortly after the film became available for streaming in Japan on Amazon and U-Next through its international distributor, Universal Content Group.
The event was co-sponsored by the Japanese Parliamentary Committee for a World Federation and the office of Diet member Hirofumi Nakasone, the son of former Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, who is portrayed in the film by actor Hideo Kimura, Just the News has learned.
Attendees included members of the Diet, staff, and several notable guests, including Bobby Valentine, former manager of both the New York Mets and Japan’s Yokohama BayStars.
The parliamentary screening followed a separate showing at the U.S. Capitol for members of the House of Representatives. The event was House Speaker Mike Johnson and attended by the film’s director, Sean McNamara, along with co-star Xander Berkeley.
“It was an honor to screen this film once again for our members who weren’t able to attend the first screening. We hope it will bring attention to this worthy film,” Secretary-General of the Japanese Parliamentary Committee for World Federation Masakuni Tanimoto said.
Reagan, which premiered in theaters on August 30, 2024, tied with Wild Robot as the most popular film of the year among audiences, earning a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. The film was released in Japan earlier this year.
“It was an honor to screen for members of the Diet especially now that the film is available to stream in Japan,” producer Mark Joseph said. “I was delighted to meet so many members and was grateful that they took time from their busy schedules to watch our film.”
