Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has carved out a lead over former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., in the battle for Michigan’s open Senate seat, according to a recent survey.El-Sayed, who recently defeated Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., to clinch the party nomination, earned 46% support among likely voters in the latest Susquehanna Polling & Research survey. Rogers, for his part, took 39% support.
The seven-point lead for El-Sayed could be an outlier, however. The RealClearPolitics polling average, which includes the Susquehanna poll, shows El-Sayed with a 0.7% lead.
Nevertheless, the race is expected to be one of the most critical in the battle for the upper chamber in November. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., is not seeking reelection and the state backed President Donald Trump at the national level in 2024.
Conducted Aug. 11-17, the survey questioned 800 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 3.46%.
