The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has opened investigations into multiple school districts nationwide over allegations of sexual misconduct by staff members against students.
The department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) will probe the “districts’ handling of alleged sexual harassment, including sexual assault, by district teachers, administrators, and other school personnel violated Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972,” the ED said in a statement on Tuesday. The investigation is part of a nationwide initiative announced by the ED in July that targets sexual predators in K–12 schools.
