At least 109 migrants, including 15 children, died and about 116 remain missing after a boat carrying roughly 350 people from Djibouti to Yemen capsized near Obock overnight October 8–9, according to the International Organization for Migration. More than 80 people survived, all Ethiopian nationals, and search and rescue efforts and emergency assistance are underway with local authorities. The agency said poverty, insecurity and climate impacts drive migrants onto the dangerous route toward Yemen and Gulf countries.
