Disapproval of Congress at all-time high: Poll

American impressions of Congress are overwhelmingly negative and disapproval has matched an all-time high, a recent survey has revealed.Just 10% of U.s. adults approved of the way Congress is handling its job in the latest Gallup survey. A further 86% disapproved, tieing with the highest all-time levels.
Gallup pointed to the ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, as well as Republican frustration over the failure of the Senate to approve the Save America Act, a marquis voter ID bill, as driving the negative outlook. Approval of the current, 119th Congress peaked in March 2025 at 31% and has steadily declined since then.
Republicans have faced considerable pressure from the base, as well as right-wing heavyweights in both chambers, to use either a “talking filibuster” or to eliminate the filibuster in order to pass the bill without Democratic support. Thus far, however, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has declined to do so.
Conducted April 1-15, the survey questioned 1,001 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of +/- 4%.
