Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Wednesday that a Department of Homeland Security employee was murdered in Georgia this week in a string of attacks that left two dead and one injured.Mullin said the suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Olaolukitan Adon Abel, an allegedly illegal migrant who was born in the United Kingdom and became a naturalized citizen in the United States under the Biden administration.
The secretary identified the victim as DHS employee Lauren Bullis, who was allegedly shot and stabbed while walking her dog in Brookhaven, Georgia on Monday. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Abel also allegedly shot a homeless man multiple times outside of a Kroger in Brookhaven, and a woman was allegedly shot near a Checkers in the Georgia city.
“Since President Trump took office, [US Citizenship and Immigration Services] has implemented measures to ensure individuals with criminal histories and who otherwise lack good moral character do not attain citizenship,” Mullins wrote on X. “These acts of pure evil have devastated our Department and my prayers are with the families of the victims.”
Mullin also claimed Abel has a criminal history that includes convictions for sexual battery, battery against a police officer, obstruction, assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism.
Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said police believe the attacks were random and Bullis was not targeted, according to News Nation.
The department said Bullis has served in multiple positions in the DHS Office of Inspector General, including Auditor in the Office of Audits and as a Team Leader in the Office of Innovation.
“In every role she held, Lauren exemplified dedication to the OIG mission,” the department said on X. “Lauren approached her work with integrity, thoughtfulness, and a commitment to excellence that strengthened our organization and the communities we serve … This horrific incident is a devastating loss for the entire DHS community.”
