Deputy Secret Service Director Matt Quinn said Friday that he is working on transitioning out of his role in the near future in order to spend more time with his family and comes just 18 months after he came out of retirement.Quinn said that he has been speaking with Secret Service Director Sean Curran about leaving as quickly as possible and feels it’s now the right time for him to go back into retirement, noting that the agency is “well-positioned for the future.”
“Today I informed the men and women of the Secret Service that I will be transitioning out of my role as Deputy Director,” he said on X. “Director Curran and I have been working on a thoughtful transition plan for months now. Proud of the men & women of the USSS and all your accomplishments!”
The departure comes after reports surfaced concerning a potential conflict of interest given his work at drone-manufacturer Fortem Technologies. Quinn recently said in a “60 Minutes” interview that he does not feel the Secret Service is prepared to handle a drone swarm attack.
The deputy director worked for Fortem Technologies for three years before moving back to the Secret Service last year. He also worked for the Secret Service for 25 years before departing for Fortem, according to RealClearPolitics.
Quinn said he is most proud of helping to transform the agency’s leadership team and increasing law enforcement staffing during his tenure, according to NewsNation.
The Secret Service recorded a net gain of more than 900 law enforcement personnel this year, compared with 87 last year, according to the deputy director.
