Department of Justice charges fifth foreigner with voting illegally in Nevada

The Justice Department announced Friday that it has charged another foreign national with voting illegally in a federal election in Clark County, Nevada.The department charged Argentine national Mariela Delia Mendoza, who is in the United States legally but is not an U.S. citizen, with the crime, which carries a penalty of up to one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to $100,000, or both.
The department claimed Mendoza voted in the 2024 general election, which was held in part for the purpose of electing a candidate for the office of president, vice president, member of the Senate, and member of the House of Representatives.
“As this additional case demonstrates, there is a catastrophic failure to protect the ballot box,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada Sigal Chattah said. “Every single illegal vote directly questions the very security of our elections and compromises public trust in our democratic processes. 
“[We] will enforce a zero-tolerance policy, and every single 611 case will be prosecuted to the absolute fullest extent of the law,” she continued. “We will aggressively hunt down and dismantle any attempts to compromise this election, and we will ensure that the voice of every lawful American citizen is completely protected from being diluted, neutralized, or stolen by illegal votes.”
Mendoza is now the fifth foreign national to be charged with illegal voting in Nevada this month. 
The others are: Philippine national Jullie Ann Sumalinog Moore, Sudan national Moneir Elzobier Ali Yousif, Afghan national Khalida Safi and Democratic Republic of Congo national Mlebinge Riziki Ramadhani.
The charges come shortly before the next general election, which takes place on Nov. 3. There is no candidate for president in 2026, but all House seats are open and one third of the Senate.
