According to his office, Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) was left injured by what sounds like a relatively serious car crash, with another driver on the road suffering a medical episode and, while debilitated, crashing into several nearby cars, including the one in which the senator was riding as a passenger. The senator suffered, his office said, “minor” injuries in the crash, though he was temporarily hospitalized.
Apparently, Sen. Coons was riding in the passenger seat in the front of a vehicle that a staffer was driving around mid-morning (10:20 am) on Sunday, June 28, along Savannah Road in Lewes, Delaware. As they rode along, the driver of a nearby pickup truck suffered the aforementioned medical episode and crashed into them and other vehicles, creating a multi-car pileup.
