Michigan Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens appeared alongside Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers at a Detroit church Sunday, deepening tensions within the Democratic Party just days before the election. She later posted on social media that she is endorsing Rogers.
Stevens, who narrowly lost the Democratic Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed in August, has publicly criticized her former opponent over his comments about Israel and his response to a controversial political advertisement linking U.S. support for Israel to rising grocery prices.
The controversy intensified after Stevens’ fiancé, Jason Turkish, announced he plans to vote for Rogers rather than El-Sayed.
