    A six-month randomized controlled trial led by Penn State researchers found that adding one avocado daily to a typical diet lowered LDL particle concentration, according to a report published in July 2026 [1]. The reduction corresponded to an estimated 4% lower risk of future cardiovascular disease, the study authors reported.

    The study, known as the Habitual Avocado Trial, involved 786 adults with abdominal obesity, a condition associated with elevated cardiovascular risk. Participants continued their normal eating habits, with one group consuming one avocado each day while the other group limited avocado intake to fewer than two per month, according to the researchers [2]. Participants did not lose weight or significantly reduce waist circumference, indicating the benefit was independent of weight loss, officials said [3].
