(CN) — A Washington church will remain free to require that its employees live out its Christian values after a Ninth Circuit panel on Tuesday rejected the state’s attempt to enforce its anti-discrimination law.
“Washington cannot override the First Amendment’s church autonomy doctrine, and so the district court’s injunction must be affirmed,” U.S. Circuit Judge Patrick Bumatay, a Donald Trump appointee, [wrote](https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/union-gospel-yakima-opinion.pdf) on behalf of the panel.
