    Cardiovascular exercise helps keep the heart and lungs strong, and it is sometimes called aerobic exercise, according to healthdirect. The Australian government health information service states that regular cardio supports overall health and can assist with weight loss while reducing stress levels. Activities commonly classified as cardiovascular exercise include walking, running, cycling and swimming.

    Australian guidelines recommend that adults be active on most days of the week, healthdirect reports. The service states that most people can safely perform moderate physical activity, but it advises individuals to start slowly and build up their level of exercise to avoid injuries. Separate guidance applies to certain groups, including people in specific age brackets, pregnant people, people with a disability and those managing a chronic condition.
