Britain is getting quite used to changing priministerial horses midstream. Since the turn of the century, Parliament has had new replacement prime ministers step into power without a fresh general election a number of times. And yet, each time, the Member of Parliament had stood on the ruling party’s manifesto during the previous national ballot. Andy Burnham, the new PM in Number 10, however, is the exception. In fact, his rapid ascension is causing quite the stir in terms of where he believes he gets his mandate.
