The US House of Representatives on Thursday, April 30, finally voted to pass the Senate’s DHS funding bill. The Senate first passed this bill by unanimous voice vote on March 27, but the House GOP blocked it because it didn’t fully fund border security. This version funds everything except for ICE and CBP. It was part of the Senate Republican plan to stop the shutdown by passing most of the funding in a manner that even Democrats can get behind, then later funding those two agencies through a reconciliation bill.
The vote comes one day after the House managed to approve the Senate’s reconciliation framework, allowing the eventual drafting of a specific funding bill to take care of ICE and CBP, amongst other things.
