Country music legend Dolly Parton died Tuesday at the age of 80, ending a remarkable career that carried her from a one-room Tennessee cabin to the highest levels of American entertainment. Her family announced her death on August 25th through a video recorded by her nephew, Bryan Seaver. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
Parton was born on January 19th, 1946, in Pittman Center, Tennessee, and grew up as one of 12 children in nearby Locust Ridge. She began singing in her grandfather’s church as a child, appeared on local radio by age 11, and performed at the Grand Ole Opry at 13. After graduating from high school, she moved to Nashville and eventually found national fame alongside Porter Wagoner.
