Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Monday defended the conduct of law enforcement and security officials present at the White House Correspodents Association dinner during which a gunmen allegedly attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump.”Law enforcement did not fail,” Blanche said during a press conference. “They did exactly what they are trained to do. This was not an accidental. It was a result, as we know now, of preparation. But the men and women who protected us that night were trained, professional, and had an enduring commitment to the rule of law.”
Also in the press conference, Blanche confirmed the charges against alleged gunmen Cole Allen, who was arraigned on Monday and faces charges of attempting to assassinate the president.
The incident marked the latest attempt on Trump’s life, following the shooting in Butler, Pa., and a later attempt at a Florida golf course.
