Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., on Wednesday called on state lawmakers in Tennessee to redraw its slate of congressional district maps to eliminate Democratic-leaning districts in the wake of a decision from the Supreme Court.I urge our state legislature to reconvene to redistrict another Republican seat in Memphis. It’s essential to cement [Donald Trump]’s agenda and the Golden Age of America,” she posted on X. ” I’ve vowed to keep Tennessee a red state, and as Governor, I’ll do everything I can to make this map a reality.”
Accompanying her post was a picture of a proposed set of district maps that would only include GOP-leaning districts. Tennessee currently has one Democratic-leaning district centered on Memphis.
Blackburn’s proposal follows the Supreme Court narrowing the Voting Rights Act to strike down racially gerrymandered congressional districts. The ruling is expected to trigger a wave of map redraws across the South.
