The Department of Homeland Security scheduled multiple LGBTQ Pride Month activities during government working hours in June 2023, according to documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation through a Freedom of Information Act request. The 20-page calendar reportedly included events across several DHS agencies, including FEMA, the U.S. Secret Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Among the scheduled activities were forums focused on bisexual, pansexual, transgender, intersex and asexual employees, as well as educational videos and discussions about LGBTQ history and workplace inclusion.
The calendar listed a Pride flag-raising ceremony at DHS headquarters attended by then-Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Deputy Secretary John Tien.
James Fitzpatrick, director of the Center to Advance Security in America, criticized the programming, arguing that the department had devoted attention to activities he viewed as unrelated to its core mission.
