    Beyond turmeric: 5 Everyday spices that pack a powerful antioxidant punch, new research reveals

    Although turmeric is widely praised for its health benefits, its active compound curcumin is poorly absorbed by the body, limiting its effectiveness unless combined with black pepper and fat.
    Cloves, cinnamon, oregano, thyme and sage offer antioxidant benefits similar to turmeric but are much more easily absorbed, providing a practical alternative for fighting cancer, heart disease and cognitive decline.
    Cloves are a powerful antioxidant but can slow blood clotting and require caution with blood thinners; Cassia cinnamon can cause liver damage in high doses, making Ceylon cinnamon the safer choice for regular use.
