On Thursday, April 30, the Rhode Island House Judiciary Committee will hear H 7760, the “Lila Manfield Sapinsley Compassionate Care Act.” The title sounds merciful. The bill is not. It would legalize physician-assisted suicide in Rhode Island and give doctors legal protection for prescribing lethal drugs to patients judged to have six months or less to live. Rhode Island residents should understand exactly what this bill does before lawmakers vote. Doctors can be, and have been, wrong about a six-month prognosis. Patients often outlive predictions. A person with depression, fear, isolation, or family pressure may still sound “capable” in a…

Donald Trump is generally quite good about calling out the media when he thinks they have crossed the line. Generally, he is not specific enough to convince anybody, but then again, the president really is in no position to give in-depth rebuttals to every accusation. Advertisement But neither the president nor his communications team hits various Democrats hard enough on their rhetoric. Trump is good at the insults, which helps with his base, but there is a good argument to be made that his communications team should get specific about calling out Democrats when they go way over the line. I know…
Here’s an important mental exercise: If the shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday had intended to kill journalists instead of the president, what would the media be talking about nonstop for the next 100 years? Everyone knows the answer. But 31-year-old Cole Allen, the suspected would-be assassin, explicitly wrote in his widely-reported “manifesto” that he wasn’t targeting guests at the annual event, but instead U.S. “representatives,” specifically “administration officials … prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest.” And when it’s Donald Trump or his supporters being targeted, well, those stories don’t tend to stick around for long. That…
Cole Allen, the 31-year-old would-be Trump assassin, appears quite normal — on the surface, that is. If it weren’t for the fact that he bum-rushed the security at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night with an alleged plan to gun down President Trump and members of his cabinet, he would be living a rather normal 21st-century life. According to the New York Post, Santiago Barrero San Román, 33, was participating in festivities tied to the San Marcos Festival when a bull turned violent, launching a relentless assault that witnesses say unfolded in seconds but left lasting devastation. The incident occurred on Calle Palomares, a stretch locals grimly refer to as the “street of hell” due to the intensity and danger associated with its bull runs. Video circulating online captured the moment the animal lifted San Román into…

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.com) US Southern Command said on Sunday that its forces bombed another alleged drug-running boat in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, killing at least three people, as the Trump administration has ramped up the bombing campaign in recent weeks.SOUTHCOM offered no evidence to back up its claims that the boat was carrying narcotics, something the Pentagon hasn’t done for any of the vessels it has targeted, and several accounts from survivors and family members of victims of other strikes suggest the US has previously targeted fishing boats that weren’t running drugs. Unions like the far-left SEIU, supporters of a California wealth tax, appear to have raised nearly 900,000 signatures to get the referendum on the November ballot.
