At least one Democratic senator expresses concern about burgeoning Jack Smith spying scandal

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., acknowledged that his Republican colleagues in the Senate are justified in their concerns about the Justice Department having spied on members of Congress in support of former special counsel Jack Smith’s investigations.”I think we need to have more facts. Look into it. Republicans are rightly concerned about the possible breach of norms and improper access to email,” Blumenthal told Fox News Digital Wednesday.
Blumenthal’s comments come after the Senate Judiciary Committee released documents on Tuesday showing that the DOJ collected text messages between 44 members of Congress and White House staff. Among the 44 members were both Republicans and Democrats.
The messages were related to Smith’s investigation of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and President Donald Trump’s possession of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.
The new documents are raising questions about whether Smith misled Congress when he testified last year. In December, as Just the News has previously reported, Jack Smith appeared before Congress and testified that the “toll records,” or telephone records, his team requested for members of Congress did not include the content of those messages.
However, the newly released records show that Smith’s team did in fact access the private text messages of 44 individual lawmakers and did so by apparently bypassing the established Filter Team, which is responsible for evaluating and segregating privileged information, the Senate Judiciary Committee said.
Besides Sen. Blumenthal, Fox News sought comments from at least a half dozen other Democratic senators, none of whom would comment.
