Army Secretary Dan Driscoll reportedly tendered his resignation Monday to President Donald Trump after months of clashing with War Secretary Pete Hegseth over the removal of multiple senior military leaders.Driscoll is expected to leave the Pentagon in the coming days, according to the Wall Street Journal, and his exit means the Pentagon will lack any Senate-confirmed civilian or military leaders.
The White House confirmed the news to the outlet, praising Driscoll’s leadership during “historic military operations.”
“Secretary Driscoll has been highly effective in advancing President Trump’s agenda to Make America Strong Again at the Department of the Army by providing outstanding leadership during historic military operations, restoring an emphasis on readiness and lethality, assisting with negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and more,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said.
“The United States Army is more powerful than ever thanks to his work alongside the Commander-in-Chief and Secretary of War,” she added.
The departure comes after Driscoll also reportedly clashed with Hegseth over the direction of the United States Army. It was not clear who would replace Driscoll in the interim.
