The world of motorsports has been hit yet again with another major loss just days after the death of Kyle Busch, as news broke announcing the death of Indianapolis 500 driver Rick Treadway, who died at the age of 56, following a tragic motorcycle accident. The news of Treadway’s passing broke on June 1, 2026, following his succumbing to injuries sustained in a crash on May 30.
Treadway is remembered by those who knew him best, including former competitors, as being a larger-than-life personality. The beloved driver made his only Indy 500 appearance in 2002, qualifying in 17th place before going on to finish 29th in the No. 5 Sprint/Kyocera Wireless/Airlink Enterprises G Force-Chevrolet entry fielded by Treadway Racing, which was owned by his father, Fred Treadway.
