Since entering the House in January 2025, Rep. Nick Begich III, R-Alaska, has had six bills pass through Congress and earn President Donald Trump’s signature, which is a record that outpaces his colleagues. Not including minor bills that rename buildings and the like, most House lawmakers never introduce a bill that gets signed into law, NOTUS reported.
Begich told NOTUS that geography has a lot to do with his success, as lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are willing to defer to the congressman who Alaskans sent to D.C. to represent them on Alaska-specific issues.
In 2024, Begich defeated Mary Peltola, the first Democrat to represent Alaska in the House in 50 years. Begich placed first in Alaska’s primary on Tuesday, coming in nearly 15 points ahead of his next closest rival, independent Bill Hill.
“In his first term, Nick Begich has proven to be an historically effective member of Congress,” Speaker Mike Johnson, who recently campaigned with Begich in Alaska, said in a statement to NOTUS.
