President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell if he stays in the role after his successor is confirmed. Trump told Fox Business that if Powell doesn’t agree to leave, “Then, I’ll have to fire him.” Trump added that he wanted to fire Powell, but he hates “to be controversial.”
Trump nominated former Kevin Warsh to succeed Powell when Powell’s term as chair expires on May 15.
