The Trump Administration on Tuesday launched a website dedicated to the events of Jan. 6, 2021, defending his decision to pardon the participants in the disturbance. After the 2020 presidential election, supporters of President Donald Trump gathered at the Capitol on Jan. 6 to protest the certification of the Electoral College results. Participants ultimately entered the Capitol while some clashed with police. The Biden Administration brought charges against more than 1,500 participants, all of whom Trump pardoned upon returning to the White House.
“President Trump took decisive action to pardon January 6 defendants who were unfairly targeted, overcharged, and used as political examples,” the website states. “They were not protected by the leaders who failed them. They were punished to cover incompetence.”
Much of the website dedicates itself to criticizing the Democrat-driven prosecutions and investigations into the events of the day. Trump has long criticized the House Jan. 6 panel as a partisan farce.
