These factors quietly shorten the roof’s lifespan and can catch homeowners off guard when problems surface. 

    Roofs serve as a home’s first line of defense, but they age differently depending on local conditions. In San Diego, intense sunlight breaks down roofing materials over time. As a result, surfaces dry, crack, or fade. Near the coast, salt carried by ocean air accelerates corrosion and material fatigue. Occasional heavy rains add moisture stress that can test the flashing and underlayment.
